North Ridge - taking it to the next level

Meet the North Ridge Team

Duncan Clark founder of North Ridge Adventure

Duncan Clark is the founder of North Ridge Adventure

Duncan’s outdoor career has been full of long distance challenges and a sense of adventure. He started hill walking at 10 with the school club and by 16 was self sufficient and confident in the British mountains. Later, as a member of the Territorial Army, he applied for Special Forces selection and began an exciting few years learning many new skills, and a lot about personal motivation and leadership. He remains highly motivated and recently ran the 153 kilometre West Highland Way ultra-marathon in ‘only’ 27 hours 59 minutes. No records broken, but a great experience none the less!

Duncan has trekked and climbed in the Alps, Andes, Himalaya and Africa, traversed some of the highest and remotest parts of the Great Wall and climbed the sacred mountains of northern Japan. He is a qualified Mountain Leader and has been involved with the BMC (British Mountaineering Council) as a Mountaineering Club official where he lobbied for the current freedoms we enjoy under the Countryside Rights of Way (CROW) Act. When it comes to practical survival skills he was fortunate to be trained by John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman, author of the SAS Survival Handbook, and has spent years putting this knowledge into practice.

A highly regarded coach and trainer, he shares his wealth of experience in an engaging manner, and is always keen to learn more by encouraging others to share their own experiences.

Jay Bridge

Jay is a Mountain Leader & Performance Coach who fell in love with the mountains on high camping trips with his father - Snowdonia being a favourite and local destination for those early walking and scrambling adventures.

A keen, all round sportsman, he represented Loughborough University at rugby league and later played for Pilkingtons Recs, St.Helens in the national league. Through field sports, especially fly-fishing, Jay learnt that sunrise and sunset that were his favourite times of the day; thus it comes as no surprise that he has built up an extensive knowledge of idyllic, mountain wild camp locations that he is more than happy to share.

Always good company, Jay will be smiling whatever the weather, and sees the outdoors as a great place to relax, develop new skills and have fun. He is also working as a performance coach for twice UK cycling champion Darren O'Neill as he prepares for the world championships this summer.

Cathy Morell

Cathy Morrell

Cathy is an Outdoor Instructor & Personal Trainer with a BA (Sports Studies) and PGCE in Physical Education and Geography. She is well qualified indeed, but when you add her impressive list of personal sporting achievements (England XC Team, County XC Champion and A class KIMM competitor) it's easy to see she 'walks her talk'.

Whether helping us design courses, formulating personal training plans for her many clients, or just being out with us in the wilds, her enthusiasm  and knowledge are really motivating.
