Welsh 3000's Report

Added 20th of May 2008

Just returned from Snowdonia, where we started our attempt at the Welsh 3000's from Pen y Pass then Crib Goch with a 04:04 departure (from the summit).

On the summit and traversing past the Crazy Pinnacles of the ridge, we enjoyed some unbelievable views, all the way over Anglesey, down to Barmouth in the South, and with the cliffs of Snowdon and Y Llewedd bathed in a pink light.
Unfortunately, the old saying 'red sky in morning, shepherd's warning' proved true again, and before long the teams were battling 55mph winds and driving rain, forcing them to abandon about half way round, retiring at Ogwen Cottage.

The instructors agreed that although the weather was pretty vile, they still considered it safe to continue, maybe reassessing later, however it is up to the client at the end of the day and it certainly wasn't much fun being soaked to the bone. I reckon maybe with a change of dry clothes, then we could have had a time around 16.5 hours..but anyway, everyone was smiling after their battle with elements and went home with an exciting tale to tell!

If you want to talk to us about doing it yourself then ring Duncan (phone number on the contacts page). With NRA you're getting our leadership, encouragement, and support vehicle - we go with you every step of the way, start to finish in one go. Please do consider what others are offering because the bottom line is - doing it over 2 or 3 days may be a fun holiday, but just doesnt count! (Nor does missing out Crib Goch and Crib y Dysgl as one large party was reportedly doing this weekend)
